VIDYALAYA BRIEF

 

1.         There are 512 Navodaya Vidyalaya all over India (2006), which are set up keeping in view three ideals viz. excellence, equality of educational opportunities and justice.  These Vidyalayas were opened under New Education Policy 1986.  The scheme of Navodaya Vidyalaya caters the need of talented children of rural area and under privileged classes.  These residential Vidyalayas are co-educational.  Although the Vidyalayas are in rural areas yet good quality modern education is imparted.  Migration policy is the unique feature of NVS policy, which aims at National Integration.  The Motto of JNVS is embodied in Sanskrit word ‘Pragyanam Brahamam`.      

 

2.         Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Goindwal Sahib is one of the links in the chain of 512 Vidyalaya, which was set up in 1987.  The Vidyalaya is up to senior secondary level and accommodates 500 students from 6th to 12th std.  75% seats are reserved for the   students of rural areas.  The reservation for girls is 33% and reservation of seats for students from SC/ST categories is in proportion to their population in the district, subject to the national minimum.

 

3.         The Vidyalaya Office functions from 900hrs to 1300hrs and 1400hrs to 1600hrs on all working days.  All business concerned with office should be conducted during office hrs.

This Vidyalaya is under Chandigarh Region.  The Administrative Head at regional level is Deputy Commissioner and at HQ level is Commissioner. The Vidyalaya has well qualified academic and administrative staff.

 

4.         The Vidyalaya admits students in class 6th through entrance examination at National level (called as JNVST) conducted by CBSE during the second Sunday of February every year.  There is a provision of admission in class IX and XI under lateral entry scheme to fill up the short fall of seats.  All the students seeking admission in class VI are required to get their names registered for admission, by filling a form which is available at BEO, DEO or Vidyalaya Office from the 1st week of September every year.  The admission in class IX is done through a test conducted by JNV regional office in the month of June and admission in class XI is done at the Vidyalaya level on the basis of merit of class X marks. 

 

LOCATION OF THE VIDYALAYA

 

The Vidyalaya is located at stone throw distance from historic Baba Shah Hussein’s mosque which is on the bank of river Beas. Shri Goindwal Sahib is famous for Gurudwara Baulie Sahib, constructed by 3rd Guru of Sikhs, Sh. Guru Amar Dass Ji.  It is 50km away from Amritsar and 45 km from Jalandhar via KapurthalaLakhs of pilgrims throng at this sacred town every year from ever nook and corner of the world to pay obeisance.

 

AIMS AND OBJECTIVE

 

 

1.         To provide good quality modern education including strong components of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of environment, adventure activities and physical education to the talented children predominantly from the rural areas without regard to their families socio-economic condition.

2.         To ensure that all the students of NVS attain a reasonable level of competence in three languages envisaged in three-language formula.

3.         To serve in each district, as focal point for improvement in the quality of Vidyalaya education in general, through sharing of experiences and facilities

 
CURRICULUM

 

The medium of instructions up to class VI is mother tongue.  From 7th class medium of instruction is English but Hindi is a compulsory language of

 

 study up to class X.  The Vidyalaya is affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi & is member of IPSC.  The courses of study in senior secondary level are Medical, Non-Medical and Humanities.

 
FEE AND OTHER CHARGES

 

Free education with boarding and lodging is provided to all the students up to class VIII.  Rs. 200/- per month is charged from the students of General Categories except Girl students and students from below poverty line from IX class onward.

 

LEAVE

 

Leave of absence should be sent on the prescribed Performa to the Housemaster.  Prior sanction for the same should be taken from the Principal.  If a child over stays for five days or more without intimation or approval of the Principal he/she will be liable to temporarily withdrawal from the Vidyalaya till the leaves are regularized by regional office Chandigarh.     

 

ATTENDANCE

 

The students need to fulfill the criteria of 75% attendance for the academic year in order to be considered for promotion in next higher class as per CBSE Examination Bye-laws.

 

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS

 

The students of JNV’S are expected to abide by the code of conduct as laid by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti some of which are as follows:

Senior students are expected to guide the junior students in academics and discipline matters under no circumstances the students are allowed to harass or bully the junior students.  The offenders are punished in case of any breach and will be send home immediately on the expense of parents.

 

COMPUTER EDUCATION

The Vidyalaya has well equipped computer lab with all facilities like V-SAT

 

Connectivity and other ICT Gazettes. Computer education is the hall-Mark of Vidyalaya programme.  The Vidyalaya is conducting computer literacy programme for the students of neighboring Vidyalayas of the district under its pace setting activities.

 
COMPUTER AIDED TEACHING LEARNING

 

Vidyalaya has a fully equipped resource room in which computer aided teaching learning takes place. Teaching learning strategies are designed to implement the latest changes taking place in school education as proposed by NCF 05 & National Education Commission.

 

PACE SETTING ACTIVITIES

 

The National policy on education – 1986 envisaged establishment of pace setting schools in various parts of the country on a given pattern, but with full scope for innovation and experimentation. As a model NVs are working in almost all the district of country as pace setting schools since 85-86. Major emphasis is given to minimize or even to remove the social inequality by actively participating in all socio economic activities of rural mass & providing quality modern education to talented students resulting into development of expertise in various life skills. Govt. of India is promoting and implementing its educational and social welfare programme through these vidyalayas by sharing of resources.

 

AE(Adolescence Education Programme)

 

Harmonious physical, emotional and spiritual development of student is of paramount importance. These vidyalayas are residential co-educational institutions catering students of age group 10 to 18 years . AEPs and sex education is being imparted intelligently in such a way that the student starts appreciating Indian concept and restrict them to be influenced by open western culture. Yoga and meditation are the part of curriculum. 

            During the session 2007-08, the Vidyalaya organized following programmes:

1.       Personality development programme by Gillete India

2.        Seminar on problems of adolescents by team of doctors.

3.       Medical check-up camp by team of doctors.

 

 

VIDYALAYA ASSEMBLY

 

  Vidyalaya assembly is the activity, which imbibes moral, spiritual and leadership qualities. It helps in character building and gaining confidence. Principal and teachers give regular motivational talks. National song and Navodaya prayer rejuvenates the students every morning by its melody. It is mandatory for every member of school to participate in this ritual. Evening assembly is also the integral part of residential system. It is conducted by MOD before evening prep.

 

PHYSICAL EDN. AND GAMES

 

Physical education and Games is an integral part of the Vidyalaya curriculum.  The Vidyalaya has all the facilities for most of the outdoor games & sports.  Daily morning PT and evening games are compulsory for all the students.  The school conducts Inter House Competitions in Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Kabbadi, Kho-Kho, Handball, Cricket and Hockey.  The Vidyalaya imparts NCC, Scout & Guide training to the students.

 

 
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

 

In order to inculcate competitive spirit, flair for rich cultural heritage and developing leadership qualities in the students to face the challenges in the outer competitive world different co-curricular activities and hobbies clubs are organized in the Vidyalaya.  The creative thinking is nurtured through literary activities like quizzing, debating, declamation, elocution and extempore speeches.  Dramatics one act play and group songs are the main events of the school.

 

HOUSE SYSTEM

 

The students live in Houses.  The number of each house is reasonable to enable the House Master/Mistress to have personal contact with each and every student of his/her ‘House’.  In addition to Senior House Master, each house has Junior house Master and Tutors.  They extend their helping hand in the maintenance of House and preparing the students of their respective house system for different house competitions.

 

 

MESSING

The school has a big dinning hall and a well equipped mess.  The messing facility is free for all the students & house masters.  The school provides a well-balanced & nutritious diet to the students.  A ‘Menu’ is prepared every month with the help of Mess Committee comprised of Principal, Vive Principal, House Master/Mistress, C.A, Cook and students representatives.  The students are served three meals a day in addition to afternoon and evening refreshment.

 

MEDICAL & HEALTH CARE

 

The school has ‘Medical Room’ with full time Medical Attendant.  The school also avails the services of Govt. Medical Officer who visits school twice a week.

TRAVEL

Parents are informed fore-hand to collect their wards from the school, on the date of the commencement of vacation, parents may come personally or authorize any other person in writing to collect their ward.  The parents will ensure that their ward is escorted back and is handed over to House Master/Mistress.  Late arrivals are liable to get punishment as decided by Principal & Staff.

MIGRATION POLICY

 

Migration policy is the unique feature of Navodaya Vidyalaya policy.  Every year 30% students are migrated to Almora (Uttaranchal) for one year under the migration policy.  The students for migration are selected through lottery system or on consent basis after passing class viii.

 

VISITORS TO STUDENTS

 

 Only those visitors are allowed to meet the students whose name has been given by parents in writing.  Visitors must seek the permission of the House Master/Mistress before meeting the student. Except for a compelling reason the

 

visitors are requested to visit only during the first Sunday of every month.  In case of emergency the visitors can meet the student with the permission of principal only.

 

SOME DO’S AND DONT'S FOR STUDENTS & PARENTS/GUARDIANS

 

Please read the Almanac carefully so as to acquaint you with the school rules and regulations.

The discipline of the school is of utmost importance, under no circumstances should it be defied.

Don’t give any money to your ward.  In case your ward requires the money, it should be deposited with the HM.

Please do check your wards trunk/bag while bringing him to the school and while taking him to home.

Don’t give any radio/tape recorder/mobile phone to your ward.  It will be immediately confiscated.

Don’t forget to enquire about the performance of your ward in the monthly test during your visit on the first Sunday of every month

EXAMINATION SYSTEM

 

        It is mandatory for all the students to undertake all school examination and monthly tests.  Evaluation/Promotion of a child will be based on the following at the end of the session .Continuous assessment based on the performance throughout the year. Participation in scientific and literary activities. Participation in cultural activities. Participation in games and out-door activities. Punctuality/Regularity in attendance and class assignment. In class X, XI & XII one subject fail is considered fail in the class.

 

In Pursuit of Academic Excellence

       In it’s earnest endeavor to achieve academic excellence NVS has     proposed a bench mark of 100% pass percentage in board exams with 90% First   divisions .It is exhilarating to acknowledge that        JNV Goindwal Sahib had produced quality results in both X and XII classes. With the strenuous and sincerest affects of teachers, round the clock , the Vidyalaya is putting forth its earnest effort to achieve bench mark laid down by NVS.

     

 

EXTERNAL EXAMINATION

 

In order to make the students bold, confident and self-reliant the students are prepared to take part in competitions like Olympiads in Mathematics, English and Sciences.  General knowledge competitions, Cyber Olympiad, scholarship examination in science, exhibition, national talent search examination and social science and science quiz conducted by CBSE.  Special coaching classes are arranged for poor performance and gifted students.

 

 

UNIT TEST

 

For bringing uniformity in all the NVsNavodaya Vidyalaya Samiti R.O Chandigarh has issued the guidelines for conducting unit test during the last week of every month.

 

TERM EXAMINATION

 

The term examinations are conducted during the month of Oct (Term–I) and March (Term-II) date sheet     is      supplied     by R.O Chandigarh.

 

PRE-BOARD EXAMINATION

 

For ‘The Board Classes’ Pre-board examinations are conducted during the month of December & January date is supplied by Regional Office Chandigarh.

Career Counseling    

      For proper choice of professional careers, vidyalaya invited professional experts from various professional institutions to guide the students accordingly. The students of X, XI and XII classes were exposed to various avenues/courses being offered by prestigious institutes like Lovely Professional Institute and Krishana Polytechnic Institute Kapurthala.
